Properties and Uses of Iron and Steel Slag MF 182-6 NATIONAL SLAG ASSOCIATION Page 5 Granulated blast-furnace slag is produced by quickly quenching (chilling) molten slag to produce a glassy, granular product. The most common process is quenching with water, but air or a combination of air and water may be used.
Slag generated from basic oxygen furnace (BOF) or Linz-Donawitz (LD) converter is one of the recyclable wastes in integrated steel plants. This paper deals with the present and possible use of LD slag in agriculture.
03-01-2014· Due to its specific characteristics, a part of the LD slag is fed back into the iron and steelmaking process to increase raw materials efficiency. This removes the need for considerable quantities of primary sources of iron and lime. To date, a majority of the slag is used in road construction, with a smaller portion going to the cement industry.
LD slag in their sinter plant and Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) uses up to 36.6%t61 of the same. LD-slag is harder to crush compared to lime stone and therefore, it may be difficult to attain

The effects of six LD slag rates (0, 1000, 1500, 3000, 5000 and 7500 kg LD slag/ha), both with and without fertilizer, on soil properties, botanical composition, and plant yield were investigated. The experimental field was set up at two locations in Bizkaia (northern Spain).

Steelmaking slag Because of its hydraulic property and the large bearing capacity it can provide, steelmaking slag is used as a road base course material. With high particle density and hardness, this slag has superior wear resistance and for this reason is used as an aggregate for asphalt concrete.
The primary components of iron and steel slag are limestone (CaO) and silica (SiO 2).Other components of blast furnace slag include alumina (Alsub>2 O 3) and magnesium oxide (MgO), as well as a small amount of sulfur (S), while steelmaking slag contains iron oxide (FeO) and magnesium oxide (MgO).In the case of steelmaking slag, the slag contains metal elements (such as iron) in oxide form ...
27-11-2019· whether LD slag could be used as a dolomitic agent for pastures. The effects of six LD slag rates (0, 1000, 1500, 3000, 5000, and 7500 kg LD slag/ha), with or without NPK fertiliser, on soil properties, pasture yield, and botanical composition were investigated at two locations, Derio and Abadiano (Bizkaia, northern Spain). 27-01-2020· Physical properties. LD slag appears like a loose collection of subrounded-to-angular-shaped granules, as shown in Fig. 1a. The grain size distribution of ungrounded slag varies from 6 to 20 mm with uniformity coefficient (C u = D 60 /D 10) and coefficient of gradation (C k = D 30 2 /D 60 D 10) in the range of 7.55 and 0.67, respectively.
03-01-2014· Liquid LD slag is produced during the LD process as pig iron is processed into crude steel. Slag is not a random product, but rather a consequence of the Linz-Donawitz process, which uses steel as well as LD slag. The slag is separated from the crude steel, separately processed, and its chemical composition analyzed.
Define LD Slag. means LD Slag processed worked through slag (WTS) (From stock yard near Appikonda gate)
coarse aggregates were replaced with LD slag aggregates up to at an interval of 20%, respectively. The mechanical properties of the concrete incorporating LD slag in the mix has been compared with reference concrete for finding the suitability of LD slag as aggregates.
The physical, chemical and mineralogical properties of LD slag samples generated from three steel plants in India were investigated and the following conclusions were reached. From the physical properties, LD slag samples showed that the pH and electrical conductivity of the samples were very high indicating high percentage of lime and presence of ionic form of various salts, respectively.
Large amounts of slags from steel plants are produced through basic oxygen furnace and LD furnace. The main purpose of LD process is to convert the molten pig iron and steel scraps into high quality steel. In India, the generation of steel melting slag is over 4 to 4.5 Mt per annum. The amount of steel slags from different steel industries are 150–200 kg/t of steel produced.

02-06-2021· Properties. Chemical properties of different types of ferrous slag vary depending on the specific production process. A common characteristic of these slags is that they result from lime and silica based melts, therefore calcium oxide (CaO) and silica (SiO 2) are their primary components.Other components include alumina (Al 2 O 3) and magnesium oxide (MgO).
1.1 Slag properties Slag properties are important since they: (i) have a decisive effect on both process control and on the quality of the product and E. S – 2 (ii) good quality property data are needed to develop reliable mathematical models of the process
One of these is Linz-Donawitz (LD) slag. At a major steel unit, such as the one in Tubarão, Brazil, we produce as much as 800,000 tonnes of LD slag every year, and ArcelorMittal has been researching ways to re-use this material. After a comprehensive study of its properties, we now make as many as 30 new products from LD slag.
Slag is the glass-like by-product left over after a desired metal has been separated (i.e., smelted) from its raw ore.Slag is usually a mixture of metal oxides and silicon dioxide. However, slags can contain metal sulfides and elemental metals. While slags are generally used to remove waste in metal smelting, they can also serve other purposes, such as assisting in the temperature control of ...
