In this study, we investigated using coconut shell concrete (CSC) in double-skin steel plate sandwich beams, i.e., steel–concrete–steel (SCS) under flexure. Two cases—without and with shear studs to interconnect the bottom tension and top compression plates—were considered. Conventional concrete (CC) was used for comparison purposes.
Concrete is produced by mixing cement, sand, coarse aggregate and water to produced material that can be molded into almost any shape. The major volume concrete is filled with aggregate. The inclusion of aggregate in concrete reduces its drying shrinkage properties and improves many other properties such as compressive strength etc.
Oct 05, 2020· The mix ratio 1:1:1; 1:2:2 gave compressive strength of 16N/mm2 and 7.71N/mm2 at 28day strength test respectively. In addition, Partial replacement of normal coarse aggregate with coconut shell was also carried out using the following percentages of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and for a mix ratio1:2:4 .

Coconut shell has high strength properties and high lignin content making weather resistant. Coconut shell has a low cellulose content because of which it absorb less moisture as compare to other agriculture waste and can be used in concrete as aggregates [3]. A previous study concluded that the coconut shells can be
Sustainable use of waste materials may contribute to reducting negative environmental impact of non-decaying waste materials. The paper examined coconut shell (CS) and palm kernel shell (PKS) wastes for concrete production in construction industry. Experiments were conducted on concrete produced with CS and PKS wastes to determine their workability, compressive strength and density.

Jul 14, 2021· In this study, coconut shell was used as recycled lightweight aggregate in concrete. For coconut shell aggregate concrete (CSAC) to be used in realistic situations, its strength…
absorption. Coconut shell is compatible with the cement. The 28-day air-dry densities of coconut shell aggregate concrete are less than 2000 kg/m3 and these are within the range of structural lightweight concrete. Coconut shell aggregate concrete satisfies the requirements of ASTM C 330. 4. Conclusıon
This indicates that the coconut shell is a suitable composite and filler for enhancing the strength of conventional solid and hollow concrete. Moreover, filled coconut shell concrete building blocks are more load bearing. Average Split tensile strength for 7 days and 28 …

grinding machine. Coconut shell aggregates are potential candidates for the development of new composites because of their high strength and modulus properties. An approximate value of coconut shell density is 1.60 g/cm3. Figure 2: Coconut Shell Figure 3: Coconut shell as aggregates III. Experimental programme
Feb 26, 2016· The project paper aims at analyzing flexural and compressive strength characteristics of concrete produced using crushed, granular coconut as substitutes for conventional coarse aggregate with partial replacement using M30 grade concrete. Beams are casted, tested and their physical and mechanical properties are determined.
The flexural strength was reported[2j to be increased by 2.5 times using 4 percent fibers. Toughness For FRC, toughness is about 10 to 40 times that ofplain concrete. Splitting Tensile Strength The presence of3 percent fiber by volume was reported to increase the splitting tensile strength ofmortar about 2.5 times thatofthe unreinforced one.
Mar 10, 2017· It is fulfilled that, the steel fibers used in this venture has shown significant development in all the properties of conventional and coconut shell concrete while compared to controlled conventional and coconut shell concrete like, Flexural strength by 6.67 % for 1.0 % of steel fiber in conventional concrete and by 5.87 % for 1.5 % of steel ...
Dec 25, 2018· Natural building materials are diminishing day by day. Hence economical alternatives of natural building materials are necessary for sustainable development. A hollow concrete block was developed to reduce the use of natural building materials. Agricultural waste products like coconut shells from the coconut industry have disposal problems causing environmental concerns.
According to R. Nagalakshmi, M25 grade of concrete with cement replaced by fly ash and coarse aggregate by coconut shell and find its compressive, tensile strength. 5. According to Sabarudin Bin Mohd, he replaced coconut shell and palm kernel shell in place of coarse aggregate in concrete in 0,25,50,75 and 100 % replacement.
Feb 21, 2017· Coconut shells are more suitable as low strength-giving lightweight aggregate when used to replace common coarse aggregate in concrete production. In the following paper the normal weight aggregate has been replaced by coconut shell aggregate and cubes have been casted to test their compressive strength and other physical properties ...
This study investigated the effect of adding fly ash on the mechanical and durability characteristics of coconut shell (CS) concrete. Two different mixes were developed, one with CS and the other with conventional aggregate and CS as coarse aggregate. Cement was replaced with Class F fly ash in terms of weight at 0, 10, 20, and 30% in both mixes.
