The purpose of the Lead/Heavy Metal Management Program is to prevent lead, cadmium, and chromium exposure of all workers, regardless of job title and to help prevent the potential for building contamination from lead during demolition, maintenance, and renovation activities in Michigan State University owned structures.
A significant increase in surface soil concentrations of all three metals was measured with increasing proximity to a tire dump in West London. The respective mean concentrations of cadmium, lead, and zinc in soil at the base of the dump were 22, 1160, and 1235 ppm, indicating contamination by each metal. Publication types Review
Unlike cadmium plating and other processes that use harmful substances, Zinc plating is safer to use. This is in relation with studies that show that Cadmium is a harmful substance and that it can potentially be deadly for humans.

Lead (atomic symbol: Pb, atomic number: 82) is a Block P, Group 14, Period 6 element with an atomic radius of 207.2. The number of electrons in each of Lead's shells is [2, 8, 18, 32, 18, 4] and its electron configuration is [Xe] 4f 14 5d 10 6s 2 6p 2. The lead atom has a radius of 175 pm and a Van der Waals radius of 202 pm.
By 2014 in California and 2015 in Washington, all brake friction materials restricted to no more than 0.1% by weight of asbestiform fibers, chromium, lead and mercury and no more than 0.01% by weight of cadmium. Level "B": Contains between 0.5% and 5% of copper by weight • Asbestiform fibers, less than 0.1% by weight
I've read that many specialty brake manufacturers cadmium plate their rotors (these are not) but I've also read here on finishing.com that just a straight cadmium plating could cause "cadmium embrittlement", which may not be good for a part such as this. I would really appreciate any info or recommendations on this. Best regards and TIA.
