From contributor B: I have a Mighty Mite bandmill (1980's vintage) and I understand fully the blade/guide issue you describe. I had thought of going to a 1-1/4 blade (Wood-Mizer standard), but it would have been about $1400 to convert and I didn't figure it worth it when I figured how many $35 blades I could buy (Suffolk Machinery's Timberwolf blade works great).

TK's part prices are out of control! I recently purchased Cook's 1-1/4" guide bearings but have not hooked them up yet, so I am still running TK's sandwiched bearings. Their prices fluctuate depending on whether they are having a good day or a bad day. I have seen anywhere between $2.50 and $17.75 for the same exact brand bearing.

I cut a piece of maple and drilled a 1-1/4″ hole through so that it would fit snuggly to the post: I could then drive screws in through access holes in the back of the post: At this point I spent a while figuring out how the guide block holders would attach and an easy way to make them adjustable.
The manufacturer recommends .005" clearance between the blade and guides; I used the thickness of a piece of paper. I cut turning blanks from a variety of woods up to 6" thick and radii from 2" to 10" using 1 ⁄ 4" and 3 ⁄ 4" blades, and the slippery-smooth SCGs held the blade true without any sign of wear.Their low cost and durability make them an inexpensive but significant upgrade.

Mar 06, 2018· My rollers have 1/8 " maybe 1/4" down presure on them and only replaced a bearing in 1 after a few hundred hrs. they now have over 500 hrs. and still going . Checked yesterday and the one on the operators side is turning but feels like it could use a new bearing . I used a sealed bearing and will replace them with sealed bearings.
Nov 26, 2014· So I just need to choose the bearing size - 1/2", 5/8", or 3/4". The bolt size will be 1/2" so it will get a bushing for the 5/8" and 3/4" bearings. This caster has an 800 lb. capacity (more than enough). I want the Cast Iron as it involves less nickel dust.

Dec 15, 2003· 1/4" deflection is pointless useless and prematurely wears out the blade. Flat stock vs. rollers. Rollers sandwich type need to be designed correct. Watch your outside dia/rotational speed, stay within the bearing limitations. A bearing inside a larger dia is what allot of mill use.
Oct 20, 2012· Overall it works great, we are using a lenox 1.5inch blade that is 201" long. They run about 42 bucks and we get a lot of sawing out of them. I am anxious to try a timberwolf on it as that is what I use in my shop with great sucess. The guide bearings are bulk lawn mower ones (i think) and are holding up great.

Making bandsaw wheels. Many people prefer to use self-aligning bearing flanges for the wheels like the one pictured here. If you bolt two of these to the wheel, that makes for a quick and easy way to mount the bearings. If you go that route, you should glue and bolt the bearings to the wheels very firmly. 150 pounds of tension on the blade is ...

I shudder at the thought that I had a total of about a 1/4" of buildup between two guide rollers or bearings. Those small bearings really take a beating without buildup, water, ice, etc. I spent $26,000.00 for my last mill and I am darn sure not going to abuse any part it.
