11-02-2011· i need to build a flare and power jet as getting one from the states is to pricey. my sluice box is 14 inches mide, 46 long. what need to know is the dimensions of the flare ie, length, with at sluice box and how much flare to put on it . i was going to build one like prolines with the longer tube section. if any one could help me it would be great.

Now for the tricky part: convert backwards and finally come up with a bore diameter. Eductor size is .219 sq. In which we will call .22 - because it is easier.

Power Jet Gold Dredge. A Power Jet is more efficient because there is a shorter pressure hose from the pump and therefore less friction losses. The Power Jet enters the suction line just before the sluice, which means the gravel is being "pulled" up the hose rather than "pushed" by a suction nozzle. This can help prevent blockages.
First you have to decide if you want a suction nozzle or power jet type. The suction nozzle puts the high-pressure water in right at the nozzle. A power jet puts the high-pressure water in just before the sluice box. A suction nozzle is best in very shallow water; a power jet produces better overall suction.
These are 1) The suction nozzle where the jet is up at the nozzle point, and 2) The power jet where the jet is located up near the sluice box. In addition to pumping water, the small engine also produces compressed air for the diver to use while underwater. In cases where the water is shallow the gold diver may simply use a snorkel.

In the case of the power jet, for 100 GPM applied to the venturi jet, it only sucked 50 GPM through the nozzle and dredge-hose. I repeated the test 5 or 6 times and the results were always the same. The suction nozzle drew 75 GPM and the tri-jet drew 90 GPM.

I live in Iowa and the gold here is only glacier deposits, flour gold size. ... I'm far from convinced that an infinity jet would be any more efficient than a well built conventional power jet however.
