I know the hammer mills on mix mills have approximately a 24" driver pulley and a 6" driven pulley to run the mill. Thats a pretty good increase in speed to run it. If you can find the right pulleys cheap enough of course it can be done but you may be better off belting it up and running it.
1 Keep the hammer mill in good repair. Good maintenance is your responsibility. A poorly maintained machine is an invitation for trouble. Always use proper tools when servicing your hammer mill. 2 DO NOT start, operate, or attempt repair work on the hammer mill until you carefully read and thoroughly understand this operator's manual.

Click here for a video of Wood running through a 198 Hammer Mill. *I was able to run 50 pounds of this wet material with a 6mm Screen in less than 20 minutes. We then ran this material through our 9" 2-Roller 10hp 220v …
With a hammer mill, you run the risk of the temperature of the product rising as it runs through the machine, which can lead to plugging and an increased risk of fires. If a coarser particle size is desired (which can positively affect animal health ), a roller mill can generate coarser particle sizes at a much higher consistency.
I cannot substantiate my information but I think they were to run around 1100 RPM at the cylinder in the mill. Watch the rate you feed the mill and it should work at the 1100 rpm speed. There is a determination method for establishing the feet per minute of …

A hammer mill is a rock crusher that employs a rain of hammer blows to shatter and disintegrate a variety of materials. Hammer mills produce a finished product size that is dependent upon the following criteria: Openings in perforated screens or grate bars …
13.1.1.2 Medium-speed mill. Medium-speed mills are smaller than low-speed units and are generally of the vertical spindle construction. The speed of the grinding section of these mills is usually 75–225 rpm. They operate on the principles of crushing and attrition. Pulverization takes place between two surfaces, one rolling on top of the other.

The Mikro Pulverizer® Hammer & Screen Mill is a high speed mechanical impact mill designed for continuous size reduction of a wide range ...
Most hammer mills run a fixed speed due to the centrifigal force required to extend the hammers and maintain throughput. Process Equipment Specialists builds the Stol-Mill designed by owner Gary Stolhanske. The Stol-Mill is a fixed hammer mill. The benefit of a fixed hammer mill is the speed can be varied to change the grind.
Just taking a wild guess that the mill pulley was 4" in dia and driven at 3000fps. That would calculate an shaft speed of 3140rpm. It would be safe to direct drive this unit with a 10 or 15/16HP 3450rpm electric motor. Handier and cheaper to run per hour than a tractor. If my math is correct.
A hammer mill is a high-precision machine that can grind up both solid and hard granules into uniform pieces to be processed in other machinery later on. The ideal hammer mill will offer consistent levels of grinding, noiseless operation, and minimal heat build-up.

When one corner of the hammer is worn, the hammer can be turned around or the edges and corners can be exchanged to replace the new hammer. Run idling for 2-3 minutes before shutting down, and close the feed adjustment to remove the remaining material in the machine. Working site of the hammer mill wood crusher
Hammer mills work on the principle that most materials will crush, shatter, or pulverize upon impact. Material is fed into the mill's chamber through the feed chute, typically by gravity, where it is struck by ganged hammers attached to a shaft that rotates at high speed inside the mill's grinding chamber. The material is crushed or shattered by a combination of …

Hopefully it will prevent damage to your hammermill and keep your mill operational and your customers and their livestock happy.
Access is an important part of any maintenance activity, particularly in the case of hammermills where screens and beaters need to be removed and refitted regularly. Additionally, kibbling plates or disruptor bars fitted in the top quadrant of a hammermill or at the junction of screens need to be examined regularly and replaced periodically.
