The main sulfides minerals identified were: chalcopyrite, pyrite, bornite, chalcocite and covellite. Iron hydroxides/oxides including goethite and magnetite were also observed associated with sulfide ore. Chalcopyrite and pyrite were the main primary minerals from which other ores were formed.
The sulfide bornite [Cu 5 FeS 4] is also an important copper ore (close to 65% by mass), especially in the copper porphyry deposits. It is Orthorhombic but commonly is massive and/or granular in habit. It does not display the brassy color of pyrite or chalcopyrite until tarnished but is a mottled brown/black/purple to copper-red but often is mixed with chalcopyrite. It easily tarnishes upon ...

In all the stratabound sediment-hosted copper orebodies, the primary hypogene mineralogy consists mainly of the copper, copper-iron and iron sulfides, chalcocite, bornite, chalcopyrite and pyrite. Where cobalt is present, it usually occurs as the cobalt-copper sulfide carrollite, Cu(Co,Ni) 2 S 4 ( Fig. 8 A).
Flotation tests were conducted on a Chilean copper ore containing chalcocite, bornite, and chalcopyrite using a Denver-type flotation cell at 0, 50, 100 g/t NaHS and pH 8, 9, 10. At several points in the flotation tests, solutions were sampled for analysis of S ion in the solutions. From the solution analyses and copper flotation results, the ...
LAFAYETTE COUNTY: Chalcocite was mined in the SE NW Sec.36 T.2N R.3E, about 4 miles NW of Gratiot. Associated minerals are copper, bornite and chalcopyrite. (Heyl et. al., 1959). —Chalcocite is reported as a secondary component of the lead-zinc ores in the Belmont and Calamine quadrangles (Heyl et. al., 1959).
Dec 13, 2019· Extraction of copper from sufidic ores, either by pyrometallurgy or hydrometallurgy, has various limitations. In this study, a solvometallurgical process for the extraction of copper from sulfidic ore minerals (chalcopyrite, bornite, chalcocite …
Aug 13, 2018· This variegated copper ore ran a remarkable 70% copper as chalcocite and bornite had crystallized in the sandstone, where they formed thick veins and crystal-lined pockets. To give you some idea of how rich this Bristol ore was, today's copper mines run about 3% copper! The Bristol deposit also yielded silver in reasonable quantities.
Jul 04, 2021· Chalcopyrite definition is - a yellow mineral that consists of a sulfide of copper and iron and is an important copper ore.
Jun 29, 2016· Well, ok, this is what I've found--some of the confusion lies in the fact that chemically speaking, Chalcopyrite and Bornite are sooooooo close, hold on nah, so I'm gonna go science on ya for a moment--Chalcopyrite is CuFeS 2 with Bornite being Cu 5 FeS 4 both are copper iron sulfides. Both apparently get sold as Peacock Ore with an acid bath.
Jul 09, 2019· (3) Bornite ore (Cu5FeS4) The bornite has the original type and associated type, its floatability performance is between the chalcocite and chalcopyrite. Other copper sulfide minerals, such as covellite (CuS), are similar in floatability to chalcopyrite.
Jul 27, 2021· Uses of Chalcopyrite: Chalcopyrite, while containing copper and iron, is used as an ore of iron and copper. Some deposits of chalcopyrite contain zinc. Some chalcopyrite contains a sufficient amount of gold and silver. (6). Chalcocite: Cu2 S. Physical Properties of Chalcocite: Crystal System: orthorhombic; Cleavage of Chalcocite: poor
The MLA analysis demonstrated that the ore samples contained chalcopyrite, bornite, covellite, chalcocite, atacamite, and native copper. The molybdenum minerals in the ore samples were molybdenite and molybdenum oxide (MoO
Apr 20, 2017· CHALCOPYRITE: The World's Most Important Ore of Copper for Over Five Thousand Years. Chalcopyrite is a brassy yellow mineral with the chemical composition CuFeS2, or copper iron sulfide. It is found in most sulfide mineral deposits around the world. Chalcopyrite loses its surface metallic luster and brass-yellow color when it weathers, changing ...
Capel Hermon, Coed y Brenin, Gwynedd: bornite was recorded from borehole cores during the drilling of the Coed-y-Brenin porphyry-copper deposit (Rice & Sharp, 1976). It is present as intergrowths, occasionally large enough to be visible to the naked eye, with chalcopyrite and tennantite in irregular veins, stringers and pods cutting altered porphyritic microtonalite in a forest road cutting ...
Chalcocite forms from the alteration of other minerals, especially other copper sulfides such as Bornite, Covellite, and Chalcopyrite, and may also form pseudomorphs after these minerals. It often forms in association with Chrysocolla, with the Chrysocolla forming as an alteration around the Chalcocite.Chalcocite is named after the Greek word chalcos, which means "copper" in Greek, in …
Thus, the paragenetic sequence of minerals deposited, as shown in this photomicrograph, is: pyrite (earliest) - chalcopyrite - bornite - chalcocite (latest). Butte, Montana copper ores. Ore microscopy, reflected light, high magnification. Local open space filling texture in lead-zinc ores …
Copper in chalcocite that is associated with hypogene hydrothermal ores is derived from a magmatic hydrothermal fluid or is extracted from country rocks at high temperatures. Moreover, extensive studies showed that hypogene hydrothermal copper minerals such as chalcopyrite and bornite do not display appreciable fractionation (>±1) [7–11 ...
Aug 11, 2010· The best copper ore occurs as large pods of very high-grade chalcocite ore. The chalcocite is thought to be a product ro lower temperature weathering. The primary (unweathered) skarn grades up to 5% in copper, with the primary minerals chalcopyrite and bornite. In the chalcocite-rich zones, the copper grades are enriched to 50% copper or higher ...

Associated Minerals Quartz, Pyrite, Calcite, Barite, Galena, Chalcopyrite, Chalcocite, Magnetite: Uses Bornite is a common copper bearing mineral, and is used as an ore of copper when found in copper deposits. Bornite is widely collected for its bright, multi-coloured, iridescent tarnish and its association with other copper-sulphide minerals.:
Sulphide ores, of which Chalcocite, Bornite and Chalcopyrite are the most important. Sulphate of copper, as Chalcanthite, which occurs as an alteration product in many rich sulphide mines, and which is the source of the copper secured by precipitation from cupriferous mine water.
In natural ore, chalcopyrite and bornite are commonly associated with secondary sulphides including chalcocite (Cu 2 S), digenite (Cu 1.8 S), and covellite (CuS). ...
