An outboard motor's water pump will be damaged in as little as a few seconds without a water source. Depending on the size of the outboard engine itself and ambient temperatures, it may be able to go a few minutes without damage. Always run your water-cooled outboard with a source of water. If there is a conceivable reason why you won't ...

Mar 23, 2021· Grinding crankshaft thrust faces, requires detailed attention during the procedure. For instance, repeated wheel dressings may be required. Also, maintaining sufficient coolant between the grinding wheel and thrust surface must be attained; to prevent stone …
Nov 17, 2020· The crankshaft can wear past the point of grinding and have to be replaced. And, If the crankshaft looks like this the con-rod is most likely not resizable. The crankshaft can bend severely or even break in some cases. If the crankshaft does break the damage may be so bad, that you may have to replace the whole engine.
Jun 18, 2021· Solution: Trace the source. In a vast majority of cases, the problem is an obstruction in the raw water intake - like weeds, mud or a plastic bag. Locate the intake and clean it out. A loose hose clamp or a split or burst hose can also slow water flow, and it can …
Apr 06, 2005· You can laugh it this if you want: Years ago I had an old engine that the threads on the flywheel side ot the crank got completely stripped. I removed the crank, and put it up through the center hole in a drill press and clamped her vertical using a drill press vice with some brass sheet metal protecting the crank surfaces.
May 20, 2004· Messages. 10. May 17, 2004. #1. I have a 3 cylinder yamaha 90hp outboard (1998). One of the oil injection
hoses came loose during transit, and the 2nd cylinder caused the engine to
overheat. The result is a crankshaft with half the centre journal a bit
scuffed. I'm told by a mechanic that I would be crazy to use the motor again ...
Oct 25, 2000· The stock 460 crank stroke is 3.85". The 2.500" rod journal is offset-ground to 2.200". This increases stroke from 3.85" to 4.15". Bore .030" over and you have a 502.5 cu in engine. .080"-over and it's a 514. This is the most common stroker out there.
The shifter rod part number for the short shaft is #318992. The long shaft rod can just be cut off and the bend put back in the top end. You will not have to re-groove it like the original, as you just need to grind a notch in the location that the bolt goes thru that attaches to the upper rod.
No grinding ports. 6. The V-6 crankshaft centerline to crankcase/intake manifold surface to be 4.42 +/- 0.01 inches. 7. Intake manifold thickness is 2.0000 +/- .015 (between carb and reed block). ... An outboard motor is defined as a complete internal combustion power and propulsion unit that can …
Thanks for the update on the problem with the grinding gear noise on your Mercury 115-HP four-stroke outboard with Yamaha powerhead and Mercury lower unit. It is a bit ironic, but in the 2006 Mercury outboard motor catalogue the page which deals with this …
Aug 11, 2017· Neglect Corrosion. Ignore your engine's need for a dry environment. Keep electrical connectors coated with WD-40 or Vaseline to repel moisture. If boating in saltwater, occasionally wipe down the engine with a rag damp from freshwater. Make sure you get rid of all dried-on salt crystals, which attract moisture.
Jun 02, 2005· considers offset grinding an FE crank a fine tactic due to journal size and the FT crank is even stronger, and since you are going way down to a chevy jounal (2.225? vs 2.438 ?) If the stock rod is cut -.10 already, and you turn the to a chevy at -.20 the that difference is 0.223, divide that by two and you have an offset of .1115. ?
Jan 12, 2017· You can grind a crankshaft, camshaft, or any shaft to make it round again when it's worn out. You replace the bearings with thicker/oversize ones, so the crankshaft fits nicely in its bearings again. The shaft becomes a little weaker, but only marginal. It …
That means if you run your outboard dry for three seconds five times, it will likely fail." It can get even worse. If an impeller fails and pieces of the vanes break off, they can cause serious engine damage when they get lodged in the cooling jacket and block water flow. 2. Excessive warm-up
Jan 02, 2012· There are a lot of ways to grind a crank, but many are done sloppy, lack of know how, using a wore out grinder, or they just don't care, or try to cheat on Quality. Just because a crank Journal looks shiny, does not mean it is good, unless checked with a Mic. Many a crank has come through hear, with a 1 and 1/2 thouhs Tapor, on a brand new ...
Apr 27, 2013· Most/all crankshaft materials are considered unweldable, for very good reasons. Even if "weldable", a post weld heat-treatment may be necessary. That can create significant other problems. As the previous post indicated, such repairs are almost invariably done with a plasma spray. I would be looking for a new crank, not welding.
Nov 02, 2020· No Crank. 1983 50hp with remote controls won't crank. I don't use it much at all anymore but I try to run the motor every so often and it has historically fired right up. This last time it wouldn't even crank. I noted the ignition switch had some visible corrosion and it didn't fell crisp to turn so I replaced it and the starter solenoid.
Crankshaft Grinding Machines. The most complete range from 1.5 meters to 14 meters crankshaft length AZ is the world leader in the production of crankshaft grinding machines for energy, ma-rine, railways and automotive. A qualified team of engineers, with experience in the mecha-nical and mechatronics engineering, and de-
a crankshaft that has not been Micro-polished. The crankshaft will have better efficiency, durability and performance. Crankshaft thrust walls that are Micro-polished can help prevent premature thrust bearing failure in certain engines that have experienced that condition. This process can be applied to all load bearing surfaces including camshaft
Faster, easier set-up then other crankshaft grinders. Four indexing locations on the head stock with the air operated index pins make it faster to dial in the crankshaft properly. Easily adjusted outboard counterweights never need to be supplemented by inboard weights.

Feb 15, 2010· Just grinding the crank undersize by .100 will not change the stroke as you would stay on the same center line. Stock large journal crank is 2.199-2.100, small journal is 1.999-2.000. You can add as much as .050 stroke as long as your crank is not already under size, or a little more if you go under size on the small journal grind.
