It was a cold winter’s night recently when we ventured out to Irene to visit Meadow Green Restaurant at Irene Country Lodge.
Forget everything you thought you knew about hotel restaurants – Meadow Green is an elegant restaurant recently revamped by Leon Van Deventer.
He has worked hard to create a menu that is slightly different, but still extremely pleasing to the tastebuds.
There really is a wide variety of food on offer; small, individual-portion salads or a wonderfully light prawn and papaya salad for starters.
Curries and traditional carvery roasts are some of the meals on offer for mains.
The centre of the restaurant is dominated by a live station. Order a stir-fry to your exact specifications, watch your fresh pasta being plated before your eyes – everything is fresh and waiting to be sampled.
The desserts are always pretty to look at, perfect if you have a sweet tooth. Delicate lemon merigues, sweet panna-cotta … the list is endless. Indulge in the cakes and tarts on offer – we only live once!
A sommelier is on hand to offer wine advice and there are plenty of well-trained, friendly staff to cater to your needs, what more could you ask for.
