Central One at Radisson Blu Gautrain station was the venue for our recent Zomato foodie meet-up. This restaurant has a wonderfully cosmopolitan feel that reminded me of a gorgeous venue I once visited in Cologne, Germany.
Chains suspended from the roof create screens which give you a semblance of privacy without the feeling of being crowded.
Over-sized lampshades add a stylish focus in the large area.
Our meals were paired with some complimentary wines; a Hill & Dale Chardonnay, Radford Dale Pinot Noir & Meerendal Chenin Blanc Natural Sweet.
The Sea Bass starter was perfectly prepared and was a light meal to start off our foodie journey. The truffle dust was really tasty, but reminded me a bit of Oreo cookie crumbs in both texture & taste.
I really enjoyed the Duo of Duck; it had a crispy skin and tender meat, not too fatty. The date puree was something I had never tried before, and the sweetness was a wonderful contrast to the duck, and the asparagus spears provided a crunchy aspect to the meal.
Dessert was highly anticipated by all and we were not disappointed. A slate platter of a variety of desserts aptly named Fantasy of Flowers was placed before us and it took all our strength not to immediately pounce on it.
Quickly taking our photos, we proceeded to taste each interesting item. The rosewater sorbet was my favourite part, followed by the zesty lemon flavoured cake. The lavender parfait had a very subtle flavour and should have been consumed before the stronger-flavoured cake and sorbet.
Exclamations of delight could be heard all around the table and was the end to a wonderful evening.
An enjoyable food & wine experience, a gorgeous restaurant with pretty view of the city and a talented chef all work together to make this a must-visit venue.
