Boerewors

Checkers have launched their new Championship Boerewors and we were given the opportunity to try it. As part of the tasting, we invited friends over to try the gourmet twist on a South African classic – the Boerie Roll.

The Championship Boerewors was braaied until perfectly cooked and then we had a taste. It’s juicy and mild with a good combination of spice. It definitely holds it own but also pairs well with different flavours – spice, sweet and salty. The Championship Boerewors will be part of our summer braais for sure!

The recipes for the Gourmet Boerie Rolls are all focused around buying ingredients and assembling them quickly. You don’t want to spend hot summer days prepping too much in the kitchen. You’re welcome to make your own toppings or you can just buy the ready-made items.

Nacho Boerewors 2

Nacho Boerie

Championship Boerewors, cooked
White Hotdog Roll
Gaucomole (avocado and spices)
Salsa (tomato, onion, chillies)
Jalapeno Chips
Nacho Chips

Assemble the boerewors roll by layering the gaucomole, salsa and jalapeno chips. Serve with nacho chips on the side

Asian Boerewors 2

Asian-slaw Boerie

Championship Boerewors, cooked
Shredded carrots and cabbage
Honey and Soy dressing
Fresh Coriander, chopped

Toss the shredded carrots and cabbage with the dressing and add the coriander. Serve with the boerewors.

Brie  Boerewors 2

Brie and Red Onion Marmalade Boerie

Championship Boerewors, cooked
Brie cheese
Red onion marmalade
Brown bread Hotdog Roll

Assemble the boerewors roll by layering the brie cheese and red onion marmalade.
