It’s the weekend. You’re lying in bed trying to decide where to have breakfast/brunch. You’re tired of the Parkhurst vibe, you’ve been there too many times.
Venturing beyond 4th street will take you to a quiet little Café – Dolci Café. A blend of authentic Italian, classic French and good old South African.
Owned by Pastry chef Jackie and her husband Clayton, this duo have a lot of experience under their belt. Having lived and worked in Italy and America, they have put their knowledge and experience of food and customer service into this quaint little spot.
Jackie & Clayton’s aim is to offer a boutique experience. A local spot aimed at locals, supporting local suppliers, the european way.
While talking to Clayton, a car drives past and the occupants wave out the window at him. Its’ got a great sense of community about it and they are proving their commitment through the suppliers they use; A local meat supplier, a local baker for the sourdough bread and local ladies for their fresh juice.
The restaurant is big enough to seat around 40 people inside, and also offers an outside seating section to take advantage of the stunning Jozi day.
This is the ideal spot for lazy breakfasts with mimosas, or a classic high tea with bubbly.
We enjoyed the High Tea selection with a glass of Prosecco.
The atmosphere was relaxed and quiet – apart from the occasional exclamations of “Oh my goodness this pastry is so buttery!’ or “Wow, this Fruit Basket custard is absolutely phenomenal”
At one stage, Clayton walked over very concerned and asked if there was something in my food because I was staring so intently at it. There wasn’t – I was simply wishing that the photograph I had taken, could convey the taste of the food!
The food is quality food and the pricing is very reasonable. This is not the last that Dolci Café have seen of us!
The venue is available for hire for special events. Rates can be obtained from Clayton.
For special occasions or corporate gifting, beautiful cakes and cupcakes can be designed and created by Jackie in conjunction with your input. Give them a call to set up a meeting to discuss: 082 683 8243
Dolci Cafe hosted us for a high tea. Opinions are our own.
